Starting from February 1st, Léontine Meijer-van Mensch has been appointed director of the ethnographic collections of Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden, which are spread over three different museums in the German state of Saxony.

Léontine taught Theoretical museology and ethics at the Reinwardt Academy. She left in 2014 and began working in Berlin as substitute director of the Museum Europäische Kulturen and the Jüdisches Museum respectively.

‘Us’ and ‘them’
According to Léontine, in this day and age ethnographic museums are possibly the most interesting and important museums imaginable. The diversity and magnitude of the Saxon collections offer a unique opportunity to look at complex historical relationships between ‘us’ and ‘them’ from different angles. And to engage with one another about the meaning of these relationships.
