Master of Museology

Museology is more than just museum studies. Our master programme provides graduates with broad theoretical knowledge and helps them develop an academic approach to museology combined with useful professional skills. It gives students the depth of knowledge they need, to play a leading role in formulating out-of-the-box policies based on sound ethics. The Master of Museology offers the opportunity to reflect deeply on and experiment with new visions of heritage and its role in society. It focuses heavily on future developments and new approaches, as well as placing collections and museums in the wider heritage and socio-political context.
More about the study programme

Co-creation
About 20 highly-qualified students from diverse geographic and professional backgrounds enrol in the programme annually. As mature students and colleagues-to-be, they are given responsibilities to work with and learn from one another. In the process they develop skills to participate in public discourse. During their 18 months of studying, they become part of the international Academy’s network. They build their careers within cultural heritage organizations and also as independent consultants.

Amsterdam & international orientation

Amsterdam has one of the highest museum densities of the world. The Reinwardt Academy is located in Amsterdam, offering a stimulating environment with top-ranking international institutes in the field of heritage as well as refreshing community initiatives close-by. Our students from all over the world bring an international flavour with new perspectives. For example, an Italian student once did the preliminary works for an exhibition of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, in collaboration with New York Guggenheim Museum and Gropius Bau Berlin. Other students worked on innovative concepts for the Finnish design museum Alvar Aalto.
