Marlous van Gastel

Marlous joined the faculty of the Reinwardt Academy in 2018 where she is a part of the Examination Committee, teaches students in the field of management and guides students through their graduation process. Marlous is also involved in renewing the curriculum of the Reinwardt Academy.

The engaged museum has always been at the core of Marlous’ profession; her master's thesis on art history at Utrecht University focused on the social relevance of museums. In addition to her work at the academy, she is also a member of the monitoring missions at the Council for Culture, treasurer for ArtMatch Foundation and a member of the field work commission at the HKU Visual Arts and Design.

During her time at the Amsterdam Municipal Museum she was responsible for the establishment of Blikopeners. This projects consists of an annually changing team of fifteen young residents of Amsterdam, from different parts of the city, who try in their own way to make contemporary art attractive to a broader public. These young people advise the museum, give guided tours and organise activities and events. One of the main goals is to give young people more confidence when interpreting art, to encourage them to form their own opinions. In this way, Blikopeners aims to create a well-informed and critical audience for now and for the future.

Management, Cultural Education, Art Education, Participation, online learning are Marlous’ areas of expertise.
