Alumnus Selwyn Ramp working for Smithsonian (U.S.)

‘After my Bachelor of Visual Arts, I chose a follow-up study, the Master of Museology in Amsterdam. That’s where I found what I was looking for: the connection of creativity, art and culture with the humane aspect in exhibitions and museology. I wrote my thesis for the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) which is part of the Smithsonian museums in Washington DC. And now I’m working there as project manager for Museum on Main Street. With this programme, the Smithsonian allows room in national exhibition themes to the local connection of small villages and communities all across America. Due to that participation there are many possibilities to view stereotypes and facilitate discussions on the matter. A lot of important heritage is kept at local level: history definitely does not exclusively belong to the big city. My American adventure feels like a work of art, but I also stay connected to the Netherlands. With my work experience I was able to help two other Reinwardt Academy students with an internship, here in America. I love connecting people!’
